Pimax Crystal Super 50PPD/57PPD - For Exchange Only – Not for Sale

I pre-odered my Crystal Super in November 2024 and changed the order to the Ultrawide version in May 2025. The headset finally arrived late September 2025. It took a few restarts to get it to connect using Pimax Play 1.42 and support had me downgrade to 1.41. That solved the connection issue for a day or two but then I started having to restart the headset to get it to connect again, so I eventually went back to the 1.42 version. Coming from an 8kx, the clarity is really, REALLY good! I was also surprised that with the huge resolution, the performance in DCS World was a bit better than what I was used to with my 8kx. I still get stuttering, but noticeably less than with my old headset. Using DLSS, I still get some streaking, but again, this is also not as bad as it was trying to run DLSS in the 8kx. On the downside, I can see vertical stripes alternating light/dark which I think is mura presented in what are commonly called tiger stripes. This is very noticeable when looking at the sky. In the Pimax Discord, many talk about the panel lottery, and when I describe what I'm seeing, many have told me that it is an unacceptable level that I should ask for a replacement. On top of that, I aslo get a flickering. This presents as horizontal stripes that are noticeable when looking at dark areas. A bit like horizontal blinds letting light in, but with a flickering effect. Lastly, I have also experienced some random system crashes that were very uncommon with the 8kx. In the end, if Pimax could reduce the mura to an acceptable level and eliminate the flickering, I'm all in. The visuals have potential to be simply amazing. I'm not seeing washed out colors like some have complained about, and head tracking works pretty well for me as well - there are some detectable glitches with it, but it's not something I find terribly distracting as it is nearly undetectable. Pimax support was very quick to respond in the chat feature in Pimax Play, but after I submitted a ticket regarding the mura and flickering, they were a little slower to respond. They've asked for some photos and log files that I've sent, and I'm just waiting to get a response. Oh, there was one other issue with the 14-day trial. I logged in one day and it said I had 9 days left and the next day it said my trial ended. There was a week long national holiday in China at the time, so there was no one to respond and I clicked the Buy button because I wanted to continue the evaluation. As I understand it, the only remedy for the high level of mura is to exchange the module for one with better panels and I'm hoping to get a positive response soon.

It's a great headset! Perfect image quality, good fov, the only small downside for me is the comfort, I would like it to be a little less heavy at the front, but with the comfort strap it's bearable

While the 'sweet spot' was hard to find at first, once I got there, visuals were breathtaking. It does need a few mods to be perfect (separate mic, custom pads etc). And some contrast/brightness adjustment. But it's incredible when fully set up. Massive FOV, perfect clarity, and edge clarity too. No distortions etc. And it's really bright. Tracking seems to be improving with each update also. Highly recommend

Games are just breathtaking with this headset. The clarity, colours and blacks are all impressive. I turned down the overall brightness to 95 have not seen any murmur or any visual concerns. Even the software (v1.41.1.152) is fantastic and I have not experienced any issues. Controllers always tracked and stay connected. Very comfortable even without the Comfort Topstrap. The only thing I wish was that the headset frame was narrower for headphones to straddle over (still works though). Overall outstanding!
