Pimax Dream Air First Impressions at German & US Roadshows!

In October and November, we held a multi-city roadshow to give VR enthusiasts, creators, and industry partners a first-hand look at our upcoming Crystal Super micro-OLED and Dream Air. Both devices feature 27 million pixels, Sony micro-OLED panels, and ConcaveView pancake lenses.

While certain hardware and software components are still in the final stages of refinement, the goal of the roadshow was to present a near-final experience that accurately reflects the visual quality and performance users can expect from the final products.

The roadshow began in Düsseldorf, where enthusiasts gathered in a hotel meeting room to be among the first to try the new optical system:

"The image, it was really strong, super sharp, very high contrast, OLED color is perfect blacks, naturally no visible pixel at this resolution. And no Mura." ——Der Komplize

From there, the tour traveled to the Apevie showroom in Los Angeles, where headsets were demonstrated on DOF Reality motion platforms, giving participants a full-motion flight and racing experience.

"As a fan of OLED screens, I think you have done better than Play For Dream." ——Get Your Game On

Visiting was Get Your Game On, who published a video as well.

The final open stop took place in a co-working space in San Jose, allowing both local VR hobbyists and developers to take part.

"Everything on that screen is sharp from edge to edge, which is impressive." ——Erik Hartley

Visiting YouTuber was Erik Hartley, who published his impressions here.

In addition to the public demonstration stops, private visits were made to respected VR reviewers and community voices, including:
  • MRTV (video up soon)
  • DiscoVR (video up soon)
  • VR Flight Sim Guy (video)
  • VoodooDE (video)

Response & Impressions

Across all locations, visitors consistently highlighted the clarity, depth, and realism of the micro-OLED visual system, particularly the sharpness of text and distant detail, areas often cited as challenges in VR optics. The roadshow confirmed that enthusiasts immediately recognize the visual leap enabled by the combination of:
  • High-resolution micro-OLED panels
  • Pimax ConcaveView lenses
  • Improved optical alignment and distortion handling

"Super Light" was also one of the most concentrated feedbacks from users at this offline roadshow site. After experiencing the DCS World flight simulation, a flight simulation user said straightforwardly:

"This lightweight design is so important. During the long flight simulation, there is no sense of pressure on the neck at all, but the immersive feeling of the picture makes me feel as if I were back in the cockpit."

As a DVT version, its wearing comfort and stability have reached a level suitable for daily use.

The portability of Dream Air lies not only in its own portability, but more importantly, we have further refined the inside-out technology in the Dream Air. This means that you don't need base station positioning at all and can enjoy all kinds of games at home, which saves money for every user.

"There are no devices like lighthouse installed in my room and I don't want to install them. When I heard that Dream Air has inside-out tracking, I know that's what I want."

Team Reflections

Martin and Calvin, who led the demonstrations throughout the tour, expressed deep appreciation for the turnout and energy at each stop.
Martin: “It’s great to see so many positive reactions. We make VR hardware, but in the end this is what you do it for — to see the joy these headsets bring and to hear the response to the visual performance. I personally think this is the sharpest VR experience ever made, so it’s great to see others confirm that.”
The enthusiasm and constructive feedback gathered during the roadshow are now being used in the final stage of polishing the product experience.
